What to Wear in the Morning

"Mary had loved to pick out that little pink flowered morning dress, for instance, with its airy dainty ruffled collar and think that when she would wear it she would be 'Mrs. Judson,' and 'Mr. Judson' would be sitting opposite at their cosy breakfast table."

I must say I do covet the clothes in GLH's books. At present I'm reading 'Where Two Ways Met' and I would dearly love the blue gingham dress and the blue dress with pink flowers June wears in the book.

One of my other favourites is 'Crimson Roses'. I love how the heroine makes over her dresses and uses remnants to sew copies of the imported dresses she sees in the department store.

I wonder if you have ever read 'The Little Grey House' by Marion Ames Taggart. Not quite as good as GLH but of a similar period. There is a wonderful scene in it where the impoverished (but genteel) girls make winter coats for the family out of a pair of their wealthy aunt's cast off curtains. Literary heroines of that time were very resourceful with the needle!

This is such a sweet quote. I too like to wear pretty things...simple, white, trimmed in lace, and pale pink rosebuds.
