Feminine Artistry
" . . . writing notes or answering the telephone, painting dainty bits of dinner cards, or arranging flowers from the hothouses, or helping Marjorie to find out what was the matter with a dress . . . and suggesting how a touch of color, or a different arrangement of drapery would bring about the effect she desired . . . in all these things Patty had a knack, a talent. She was artistic in everything she did, and knew exactly how to arrange a room or put on a hat for the best effect that was in it."

Oh, how I long for that talent!
What an inspiring quote!
If one possessed these kind of talents in this day and age she would be subject to a great deal of envy, often expressed by 'Oh, I just hate you! You make the rest of us look bad' or something in that vein. Either that or she would have her own weekly show on HGTV!
I just came across your blog and was very surprised and pleased! I have read every Grace Livingston Hill book ever published, then I re-read, and can't wait till my girls are a little older for them to read them as well. I started back in Jr. High with my mom's collection, and added my own. She is my favorite author and I love the purity, love, and message of Christ in each book! It is nice to see someone else's perspective on her books. Thank you!
I am just reading this book now - borrowed from the library! I love the fact that the dying mother of John made a special place for her son, a place of joy and deep conversations, a place to go for his tryst with God. I long to find and establish such a place with our children when they are a bit older perhaps - a place away from the distractions of this overly busy world!
beautiful!
